Summary

Teddy Crutcher has won Teacher of the Year at the esteemed Belmont Academy, home to the best and brightest。

He says his wife couldn't be more proud—though no one has seen her in a while。

Teddy really can’t be bothered with the death of a school parent that’s looking more and more like murder or the student digging a little too deep into Teddy’s personal life。 His main focus is on pushing these kids to their full academic potential。

All he wants is for his colleagues—and the endlessly meddlesome parents—to stay out of his way。

It's really too bad that sometimes excellence can come at such a high cost。

USA Today bestselling author Samantha Downing is back with her latest sneaky thriller set at a prestigious private school—complete with interfering parents, overeager students, and one teacher who just wants to teach them all a lesson…

Downing has a really good way of making you fall in love or fall to loathing of a character。 Nothing extremely surprising, however, it was an fun read。 I felt like the ending was a little boring。

I knew from minutes into reading this book that I was going to love it。 What a fun dastardly read。

quite a twisty tale and while you know who does what, getting into their minds is another story。

Absolurely brilliant, I loved this。I will post my review early next week。

I really like Samantha Downing, but this book was not my favorite。 I thought the storyline felt a little forced, and I am used to a good page-turner from Downing。 I was eager to turn the pages so I could be finished on this one。 The characters were meh and under developed, and I felt the revenge aspect was a bit predictable。

The last sentence of this book almost pushed me to give it four stars。。。proof that a great ending can elevate an okay book。 Well, I did say almost, didn't I?I'd even argue that "okay" is doing the novel injustice。 How about "pretty good" instead? Really? The level of egotism these characters possess is astounding。 Also astounding is just how inept law enforcement is in whichever-New-England-town-Belmont-Academy-is。 I will say, it's actually refreshing knowing who the "bad guy" is right from the start, instead of having the author try to spring some huge twist on the reader at the last minute。 Life is about the journey, not the destination, after all; how we get from Point A to Point B is compelling enough for me。 If you want an entertaining read that won't offer any real surprises and strains credibility a bit at times, you'll enjoy "For Your Own Good"! 。。。more

Book kept my interest, but it could get repetitive。 I liked that it was written as first person perspectives of the characters。 I did think it read a bit young and could pass easily for a YA。

This book was pretty good。 I wouldn't really say it was thrilling, you pretty much knew what was going to happen before it did。 But even with that, I still really enjoyed this book。 It kept me interested which was surprising since none of the characters were likable。 It was a fun read! 4/5 stars This book was pretty good。 I wouldn't really say it was thrilling, you pretty much knew what was going to happen before it did。 But even with that, I still really enjoyed this book。 It kept me interested which was surprising since none of the characters were likable。 It was a fun read! 4/5 stars 。。。more

It's never going to be anything but a crazy ride with Samantha Downing, so as always, I checked my disbelief in at the door and ran with it。 I had lots of fun with Teddy, obnoxious, pompous, sociopathic, what's not to love? You know it's bonkers going in, but oh so engaging, very dark and yet light at the same time, a fab bit of escapism。 It's never going to be anything but a crazy ride with Samantha Downing, so as always, I checked my disbelief in at the door and ran with it。 I had lots of fun with Teddy, obnoxious, pompous, sociopathic, what's not to love? Twisted!I thoroughly enjoyed this read! It was darkly hysterical and had more twists and turns than a slinky。 I had to make myself put it down so I could sleep!

Such a fun thriller to read。 I love the way Samantha Downing writes。 I laughed out loud so many times while reading this which is very impressive。 The ending was a slight disappointment though which made this original 5 star book go to 4 stars。 I loved that the characters were all horrible and very layered。 And it was very surprising that she killed off so many of them throughout the book, but I really loved Fallon and thought she was crucial to the plot。 I really wanted to see her get Teddy bac Such a fun thriller to read。 I love the way Samantha Downing writes。 I laughed out loud so many times while reading this which is very impressive。 The ending was a slight disappointment though which made this original 5 star book go to 4 stars。 I loved that the characters were all horrible and very layered。 And it was very surprising that she killed off so many of them throughout the book, but I really loved Fallon and thought she was crucial to the plot。 I really wanted to see her get Teddy back for how he ruined her life。 I mean, he literally ruined her life for no reason and then gets to kill her。 That’s not right。 I wanted to see her revenge! And I wanted Teddy to find out that Fallon was the one who told his wife about his vasectomy。 Instead, she dies, and Teddy dies off-screen (sorry for the film term)。 It just ended very abruptly。 Few plot holes too (at least to me, still an amazing book!!!)。 Teddy has been dosing the coffee pods for years, but how could he be 100% positive that the right person would take the right pod? That is extremely risky。 And why did the students still eat the food in the cafeteria after the first two deaths? Also, there is a typo on page 232。But I can't wait for her next book! Love her work。 。。。more

🍌🍌🍌🍌/5 This book is bananas in a good way stars。 I absolutely hated the ending of this author’s last book。 ( He Started It。 ) But since I really liked it until the end, I wanted to give them another chance。 And thank goodness I did because this one was good the whole way through。 I suppose the ending felt a little rushed but it didn’t send me into a hulk rage or ruin my enjoyment so I’m not knocking it for that。 🙃One thing you should know about me。 I love reading about creepy, devious, psych 🍌🍌🍌🍌/5 This book is bananas in a good way stars。 I absolutely hated the ending of this author’s last book。 ( He Started It。 ) But since I really liked it until the end, I wanted to give them another chance。 And thank goodness I did because this one was good the whole way through。 I suppose the ending felt a little rushed but it didn’t send me into a hulk rage or ruin my enjoyment so I’m not knocking it for that。 🙃One thing you should know about me。 I love reading about creepy, devious, psychopathic, often hilarious weirdos。 I’m talking Paul from Best Day Ever , Joe from You , Patrick Bateman from American Psycho or Amy from Gone Girl 。 The kind of delusional weirdos who are batshit crazy but in their heads, they are the logical ones。 😂So I’m happy to add another character to my favorite psychopath list with this books Teddy。 Perhaps…no for sure…it makes me a weirdo to have this both mental and actual Goodreads list。 Oh 🐳。 I never claimed to be normal。 🤷🏻‍♀️I couldn’t do anything until I finished this book tonight。 At one point I ordered a tuna sandwich from DoorDash, unwrapped it but didn’t eat it。 I was too riveted and my cat stared daggers at me because she wanted her usual treat and I was denying her。 (Sorry Holly!)This isn’t a mystery really。 You know who the big bad is。 It’s Teddy and he’s gloriously terrible。 And oh how I loved him for it。 But he’s not completely alone in his nefarious ways。 There’s not one character who is truly good。 And that’s what made this all the more fun。 。。。more

A lot of the usual high school hijinks — plus a murderous English teacher。

For some reason I thought this was going to be more dark academia vibes。 It was actually more a Gossip Girl-esque school with rich kids, but throw in some murders and a psycho teacher。 It had great pace and was so easy to fly through。 I loved being inside Teddy’s head and hearing his own reasonings and thought processes。 Overall I highly enjoyed it!

At one point I said “this is just getting silly。” I’m annoyed I wasted my time finishing the audiobook。 When you go from normal speed to 2x just to get it over with that should be a sign。 👎🏻

Oooohhhh…the people at Belmont Academy are a mess and what a fun mess it is to read。 I always hesitate when reviewing Downing books on how to categorize them。 While technically it is a mystery, you pretty much know what everyone is doing the entire time (although there’s always a little surprise tucked in the pages)。 I’ll skip a recap for this one because you just need to go along for the ride。 This is a book for when you don’t want to think too hard and just want to be entertained。

More like 4。5 stars。I loved this book! I read it in just two days and probably would have finished it in one sitting if not for work。 It was truly unputdownable。 I felt completely invested in the story, despite knowing everything that was going on (due to the narrative structure- the reader has a complete view of the whole story as they have access to all of the POVs and therefore all the information) I was on the edge of my seat the whole read。 I was constantly wondering if certain characters w More like 4。5 stars。I loved this book! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Overall this was a good read with a unique tone。 I enjoyed the slightly snarky tone of this book and how no one in it was very likable, and enjoyed how it had multiple murders and even murders rather than just one。 I did find the jump in POVs a little confusing at times, but each character had their own tone so it only took me a few sentences to catch up

Maybe 3。5 stars。 Maybe。 Has some good twists but too long at points。 It’s never a good sign when your mind wanders in a mystery or thriller。

DNF。 Sorry, I couldn't get past that there is absolutely no mention of the pandemic and the many things a school has to have done during it, but suddenly the author mentions Covid。 Perhaps this takes place far in the future, when the virus is mostly a distant memory but occasionally people still get sick from it? The casual reference to Covid with none of the attendant realism of teaching during a pandemic undermined the author and editor credibility, and I just couldn't continue。 DNF。 Sorry, I couldn't get past that there is absolutely no mention of the pandemic and the many things a school has to have done during it, but suddenly the author mentions Covid。 Perhaps this takes place far in the future, when the virus is mostly a distant memory but occasionally people still get sick from it? This was my first book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it。 It was well-paced and well written, nothing ponderous, just a fun read with many characters but it was very easy to keep track of all of the story lines。 All of the twisty threads were woven together nicely by the end, although the concepts and methods of murder, scheming, settings, etc were not wholly original。 What set this book apart from others in the genre is the author's skill and take on how to craft a good book。 She has a This was my first book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it。 It was well-paced and well written, nothing ponderous, just a fun read with many characters but it was very easy to keep track of all of the story lines。 All of the twisty threads were woven together nicely by the end, although the concepts and methods of murder, scheming, settings, etc were not wholly original。 What set this book apart from others in the genre is the author's skill and take on how to craft a good book。 She has a unique style and I definitely will read more of her works if this is any indication of her talent。 。。。more
